When asked for his thoughts on The Future of Twitter, Loïc Le Meur the French entrepreneur, blogger, founder and CEO of the popular Twitter and Facebook application and site Seesmic.com predicted that Twitter Will Replace SMS and chat applications for millions of people.

Le Meur, answering questions about The Future of Twitter at the recent Twitter Conference in LA, also predicted that:

  • It will be a hub of hyperlocal news sites with Twitter geotagging features
  • Corporations will have entire teams devoted to Twitter and status updates
  • Google and Bing will be the dominant ways to search Twitter
  • Google will have its own Twitter and won’t acquire Twitter
  • Promos by brands and retailers will have big success especially for last minute deals

Fake Twitter AccountsEvan Williams Wants To Kill The Suggested User List – Evan Williams, CEO and co-founder of Twitter, took the stage for a discussion with Federated Media’s John Battelle at the Web 2.0 Summit 2009 in San Francisco late Tuesday.

In a lengthy and broad ranging discussion covering a lot of interesting topics Evan Williams says Twitter traffic may have plateaued, but only temporarily but said that they think they have new features coming out that will change that.


According to an article in TechCrunch.com, the most interesting bit came at the end when conference founder Tim O’Reilly asked a question from the audience. O’Reilly asked if it was time to retire the Suggested User List (SUL) with the new Twitter Lists feature coming? Williams made it very clear that he absolutely agrees that it’s time. When Lists comes out and are working properly, they plan to kill the SUL, Williams says.

Twitter Launches Japanese Mobile SiteTwitter Launches Japanese Mobile Site – According to Forbes.com and Yahoo News, India, the popular microblogging service on Thursday launched a Japan-based mobile version, hoping to penetrate a country where other U.S. social networking sites including Facebook and MySpace have failed to capture much ground.

Japanese is Twitter’s sole foreign language platform so far, and the company’s efforts here indicate it’s serious about making it in Japan. Twitter teamed up with Tokyo-based Internet firm Digital Garage Inc.

Twitter Losing Out to Facebook in the USTwitter Losing Out to Facebook in the US – The DailyTelegraph, UK reports that Twitter is losing ground to Facebook in the US, as the social network nears 100 million unique monthly users, according to new figures.

Facebook grew by over three million unique visitors during September, according to the comScore’s US monthly data. It went from 92.2 million unique visitors in August to 95.5 million uniques in September. Read more

Twitter To Introduce Live Video-tweetingTwitter Founder Quashes Video Rumours – Biz Stone, Twitter’s co-founder, has quashed rumours that the microblogging service may add video functionality to the service.

In our article entitled “Twitter To Introduce Live Video-tweeting we stated that according to the Daily Telegraph.co.uk., Twitter users may soon be posting real-time video tweets in addition to text tweets under plans to modernise the site.

In an email to technology website, Mashable, Mr Stone said: “[There will be] no video hosting. 140 characters of text including spaces. You know the drill.” Read more

Twitter in Talks with Google and MicrosoftTwitter in Talks with Google and Microsoft to add real-time tweets to search results. According to the daily Telegraph, UK, Twitter is reported to be in “advanced negotiations” with Google and Microsoft about licensing its data feed for use in their search engines.

Also, according to the All Things Digital technology blog, Twitter is in advanced talks with Microsoft and Google separately about striking data-mining deals, in which the companies would license a full feed from the microblogging service that could then be integrated into the results of their competing search engines.
